Experienced Problem Solver, in and out of the Courtroom
I have been a courtroom attorney for over four decades. A graduate of the University of Oregon Law School in 1965, I began my legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in Lane County. I later became the Chief Trial Attorney for Lane County, where I supervised 25 prosecutors. I have been in private practice for the last 40 years.
There is little that I have not seen in or out of the courtroom, and this experience and enables me to handle every matter with confidence and focus. I have taken over 1000 cases to trial, including seven murder cases, and I have handled upward of 1000 DUI cases. Because I know how "the other side" thinks, I can effectively assess the weaknesses and strengths of the opposing case — as well as opposing counsel.
Experience also gives me the perspective to know that not all matters are best solved through litigation. Mindful of the time, cost and stress of trial, we will explore non-litigation alternatives where it makes sense for your situation. I am a court-appointed arbitrator for the Circuit Court and well-versed in different methods of alternative dispute resolution.
I am well-known and respected by clients and the local legal community. Having worked extensively with other attorneys, judges and court personnel in the area, I enter into most every case with an established element of trust. Opposing counsel knows that I meticulously prepare my cases and will aggressively represent my clients at all times.
Helping Clients Through Difficult Times
The foundation of my work is helping people. I bring diverse life experience to every client I meet, and one of my greatest strengths is relating to people from all walks of life. I worked my way through college and law school, working in saw mills, gravel pits and driving trucks to pay for my education. Over the years, I have been involved in numerous real estate transactions and have represented business people, doctors and professors in a variety contractual and other legal matters.
Whatever your situation, I am aware of the stress and emotion that can accompany unresolved legal matters. Whether you are facing criminal prosecution, confronting divorce, or dealing with a personal injury, I will provide compassionate counsel, listening carefully to your concerns and tailoring strategies to meet your goals. You can take confidence knowing that your legal problem will be resolved effectively and efficiently. Protecting your best interests is my top priority.
