My Divorce and Family Law Practice
I will work closely with you at every stage of your divorce or family law matter, helping you safeguard the best interests of your children, while protecting your rights as a parent and your financial security. I handle all matters related to or arising out of a contested or uncontested divorce, including:
- Equitable distribution of marital debts and assets. I will help you understand how the court will valuate and divide the debts and assets of the marriage, including real estate, investments and bank accounts, retirement funds and business property. I will provide you a realistic picture of what you can expect.
- Child custody and visitation. I will help you establish and implement custody and visitation arrangements that are in the best interests of your children, taking into consideration educational, medical, religious and other special needs. At the same time, I will work to create a parenting plan that protects your access to your children.
- Child support. I will review all proposed child support orders for compliance with Oregon guidelines, and will verify that all relevant sources of income are included in the calculation.
- Spousal support or alimony. Alimony is awarded at the court's discretion, and I will explain the factors that the court considers in arriving at its decision. I will help you determine whether alimony is warranted and, if so, how much should be paid and for how long.
- Enforcement or modification of existing orders. If your life or financial situation has changed dramatically or there are disputes regarding compliance with a divorce decree, I will represent you in proceedings to modify or enforce an existing court order.
Solutions That Minimize the Emotional Impact of Divorce
I always encourage clients to find amicable ways to resolve their differences wherever possible. From experience, I know that solutions reached cooperatively have a greater rate of compliance and better serve the interests of all parties involved.
As a court-appointed arbitrator for the Circuit Court, I have considerable experience helping parties use alternative means of dispute resolution to settle marital disputes. Given the time, cost and stress of litigation, arriving at creative solutions — whether through informal negotiation or mediation — can reduce the emotional trauma of an already difficult time. Because I am respected and trusted by my colleagues in the legal profession, I am often able to facilitate settlements with greater efficiency.
